Float Therapy
What is floating?
Floating is a unique and personal experience. Each person senses it differently. There is a sense of being weightless and being supported at the same time. There is often a 'warping' of time so that your one hour session may feel much shorter or longer.
After showering you step into a cabin holding 30cm deep skin temperature water rich with Epsom salts that nourish/soften your skin (without wrinkling it) and relax your muscles.
The denseness of the salt solution allows your body to float effortlessly - some people sleep in float cabins - there is no risk of sinking.
You sit down in the water and lie back till you're floating. About 1/3 of your body is above the water line. You can choose to float in silence or with music; with soft lighting or total darkness.
What are the benefits of floating?
Floating encourages deep physical and mental relaxation.
The dense salt solution takes the pressure off your muscles and joints allowing them to rest from their usual work of holding you up etc.
The quiet and soft light or darkness allow your mind to rest from life’s general day-to-day distractions.
An hour's floating is said to have the restorative benefit of four hours sleep.
Benefits of floating include relief from stress, nervousness, anxiety, jet-lag, insomnia, muscular aches and pains. It improves your concentration and memory and gives you extra energy, making you feel more dynamic. Many people float to stimulate creative thinking, to problem solve and to prepare mentally for upcoming challenges at work, school/university and in sport. Floating has been reported to reduce feelings of anger and agitation.
